Learn to apply the elements and methods of Six Sigma to achieve the highest possible quality.

Learn how to effectively apply the elements and methods of Six Sigma. Understand how more than 25 tools and methods relate to the DMAIC (define, measure, analyse, improve, and control) model. Determine the relationship of basic statistics to Six Sigma and learn about the Six Sigma business case including strategic planning, the voice of the customer (VOC), quality function deployment (QFD), benchmarking, and financial investment methods. Discover how to use brainstorming, Pareto charts, and critical to quality help define processes, problems, and opportunities. Master the use of other key tools such as cause and effect diagrams, checksheets, scatter diagrams, failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), and force field analysis.

In this self-paced online course, you will learn how to apply the DMAIC model each step of the way. You'll learn how to define, plan, implement, and close a Six Sigma project. You'll also know how to use process capability and how to apply lean thinking. And you'll understand the basics of advanced Six Sigma tools such as sampling, design of experiments (DOE), analysis of variance (ANOVA), hypothesis testing, control charts, and probability distributions.

Courses are delivered to you through expertly executed lessons, online instruction and interaction with like-minded students. Our courses are designed to deliver all of the benefits of studying in a classroom whilst giving you the flexibility to study at a time and place to suit your needs. You can access your classroom 24/7 from any device with an internet connection.

This course has a 3 month duration. You'll complete comprehensive lessons, quizzes and assignments before submitting your final exam at the end of the course to achieve your certificate. Courses must be completed within the 3 month access period.

In our first lesson, we'll start off by investigating DMAIC, the most popular acronym within the Six Sigma body of knowledge. It stands for define, measure, analyze, improve, and control. Then, to set the stage for the remaining lessons, we'll explore basic statistics. Since many of the Six Sigma methods and tools that we'll be discussing require that you have a basic knowledge of statistics, I want to make sure that you're well-prepared. I'll show you how to apply the measures of location—median, mode, mean—and the measures of dispersion—range, mean absolute deviation (MAD), variance, and standard deviation (SD).

In this lesson, we'll take a look at the business side of Six Sigma. We'll start off by discussing strategic planning—a concept that looks at internal strengths and weaknesses and external opportunities and threats. We'll move onto two methods of identifying customer requirements—the voice of the customer (VOC) and quality function deployment (QFD). Next, we'll explore benchmarking, a technique that helps you determine how your company matches up to the competition and industry standards. Finally, we'll look at a few financial methods to help you keep track of key objectives.

You can't improve something unless you first define it. To help us identify what we're dealing with, we'll begin this lesson by reviewing the first element of the DMAIC model: define. We'll move on and cover the basic Six Sigma metrics—defects per unit (DPU), defects per million opportunities (DPMO), yield, and rolled throughput yield (RTY). Next, we'll investigate a few team techniques to help define conditions and situations—brainstorming, brainwriting, nominal group technique (NGT), and affinity diagrams. We'll finish up by seeing how Pareto charts and critical to quality (CTQ) relate to process and problem definition.

In our next two lessons, we'll tackle the measuring aspect of DMAIC. Along with defining a process, problem, or opportunity, if you don't measure something, you can't improve it. You'll learn about different types of data and gain an understanding of sampling by seeing how it's used to analyze and observe populations. We'll conclude the lesson by examining three graphical methods to measure a population: histograms, stem and leaf diagrams, and box and whiskers plots.

As we continue our discussion on the measure component of DMAIC, we'll begin today by looking at probability distributions, failure methods and effects analysis (FMEA), and physical measurement. The probability distributions that we'll review (binomial, Poisson, and chi-square) are discrete. We'll study their formulas and see how their distributions compare to the normal curve. FMEA is one of the most popular and effective Six Sigma tools. I'll help you learn about FMEA's risk priority numbers (RPN) and also provide a form to help you use FMEA. We'll wrap-up the lesson by examining a few members of the physical measurement family—metrology, tensile strength, micrometers, and optical comparators.

In this lesson I'll present several tools that relate to the third component of DMAIC: analyze. Our first order of business today will be learning how to make sound decisions and assess risk. After that, we'll look at tools to help you investigate the processes, problems, and opportunities you defined and measured in the earlier lessons. I'll share how to use regression analysis and cause and effect diagrams. We'll also spend time on force field analysis, storyboards, decision trees, why-why diagrams, and finish up with checksheets and scatter diagrams.

Are you familiar with the old saying, "A picture is worth a thousand words?" Since we're going to be spending a large portion of the lesson discussing flowcharting, I believe this quotation is very relevant. Flowcharts are a fine tool to define processes and analyze what's taking place. We'll look at the ins and outs and the subtleties of creating and using flowcharts. After we discuss flowcharting, we'll jump back into the world of statistics and examine hypothesis testing and analysis of variance (ANOVA).

In this lesson and the next one, we'll discuss project management as an essential vehicle to help you achieve your Six Sigma plans. We'll begin by discussing the different phases of the project life cycle. Then we'll move on and examine deliverables. Since they represent what customers expect, you need to know how to create and manage them. We'll also define stakeholders and talk about what they expect. I'll give special emphasis to the words "customers" and "stakeholders" to represent those inside and outside your organization.

Now that you have a good understanding of the different phases of a project and know all about deliverables, you're ready to learn how to "scope" and schedule a project. Scoping refers to making sure that you set the original boundaries for your project. When you understand all the variables of your project and define the scope properly, your plan and the results that follow have a much better chance of meeting stakeholder expectations. In this lesson, we'll talk about what is arguably the most valuable item in your project management toolbox—a work breakdown structure (WBS). We'll discuss two different versions of WBS and then we'll look at ways to schedule your project.

If you like playing games and solving puzzles, you'll enjoy today's lesson. I'll address the "I element" (improve) of DMAIC by introducing design of experiments (DOE). Although DOE has been around since the 1920s, it's taken a while for organizations to accept it. We'll begin with an overview and discuss what a design and an experiment are. You'll learn about the history of DOE and its nature. I'll identify the principles of sound experimental design and help you work on three DOE problems: one factor at a time (OFAT), full factorial, and fractional factorial DOE.

Today we'll finish our examination of DMAIC by featuring the final letter—C for control. I'll share three tools to help you control your operations: run charts, control charts, and process capability. We'll discuss how to create run charts, go through an overview of control charts, and create two different types of control charts. I'll wrap things up by showing you how to use process capability.

You've just about completed all course requirements except for learning how to think lean—our topic this lesson. Whenever I hear people talk about lean manufacturing or lean thinking, for some reason I think about going on a diet. When I give this notion some thought, it does make sense. Lean thinking means doing more with less. I guess this is how companies succeed: providing more satisfaction and more quality with less effort and less frustration. Our focus on lean thinking will consist of eliminating waste, reducing lead time, and minimizing the impact of constraints.

Learn to use the world's most popular word processor for creating documents and formatting text, now available on the Macintosh.

The world's most popular word processor for creating documents and formatting text is Microsoft Word. Now you can learn to use Word 2011, the version specifically designed to work with Apple's popular Macintosh computers. Whether you're new to Word or you're familiar with Word for Windows, you'll quickly master the program's user interface and be able to create pages from your first lesson. In addition, you'll learn how to easily transfer documents between Word 2011 for Mac and any version of Microsoft Word running on Windows so you can share documents with friend and coworkers effortlessly.

If you're not familiar with any version of Word for Windows, don't worry. This course will guide you through the basics of using Word 2011 for Mac, starting with creating a document, typing and editing text, and formatting your text with different colors, fonts, and font sizes so you can truly express yourself. You'll even learn how to design individual pages and add pictures to your documents.

You'll also learn how to save your documents and how to print all the pages in a document, or just the one or two pages you really need. You'll even learn how to customise Word so it works and looks the way you like. Finally, if you need to type foreign languages that require accent marks, you'll learn how to do that too! By the end of this course, you'll be comfortable using Word 2011 to create everything from simple letters to reports.

Courses are delivered to you through expertly executed lessons, online instruction and interaction with like-minded students. Our courses are designed to deliver all of the benefits of studying in a classroom whilst giving you the flexibility to study at a time and place to suit your needs. Microsoft Word is the standard word processing program in business today. Now you can use this powerful program on your Mac, and even share files with anyone who uses Word for Windows. In this first lesson, you'll learn your way around the program, and master the key steps to getting up and running. You'll also start using the program to understand its basic user interface. Finally, you'll see how to create and save a new document.

Once you understand the basic user interface of Word 2011, you'll probably be anxious to start using Word to create letters and reports. In this lesson, you'll take the next step by learning how to work with a document you've created. We'll start by examining several methods for moving around quickly within your text. Then we'll explore the different ways Word helps you edit your text. Through editing, you can make your writing cleaner and more focused by changing, deleting, or adding words, or by moving text to different locations. And, as you'll see, Word gives you lots of options for doing all these things!

So, now you've learned how to create a new document and type in your text. Oh, no! You realize there's a word you need to change all throughout the document. That means you've got to scroll through the whole thing, slowly and tediously, reading until you find that word, right? Actually, no! In this lesson, you'll learn how you can simplify this task by letting Word find the word or phrase for you. Word can even replace the word with a new word, so you can modify your document quickly and accurately. And all this happens with just a few clicks of the mouse. In addition, you'll get a handle on the tools Word offers, so you can check your spelling and grammar, as well as resources for finding exactly the right word so that your writing always shines.

After you've typed and saved a document, it's time to fine-tune the appearance of your text. One common way to do this is through formatting. With formatting, you don't simply make your text prettier—you also make it easier to read. You can use bold and italics to emphasize important words, capitalization to make headlines really stand out, or make your text easier to read by choosing just the right font. In this lesson, you'll learn about the most commonly used features for formatting your text.

In this lesson, you'll gain even more text formatting techniques, so you can enhance the look of your document and make it more readable. We'll start by seeing how to add a splash of color, either by changing the color of the text or the background behind the text. Then we'll explore a few different ways for changing the formatting of entire paragraphs. You'll learn how to adjust left and right margins, indentation, line spacing, and alignment to create a distinctive look for your document and help make entire paragraphs stand out.

You've already seen how to format text. Now it's time to learn how you can format entire pages! Changing the appearance of your pages can be practical, such as defining page margins around the top, bottom, left, and right edges. But formatting pages can also serve a decorative purpose, such as placing a border around the edges. Of course, don't think formatting can't be both decorative and practical at the same time. If you want to change the background color or image on your pages, or display watermarks that show text, images, or even a corporate logo, you can do that, too. In this lesson, you'll learn about all the ways Word can make your pages look pretty.

Flip open any book or magazine, and chances are good that you'll see repetitive text that appears at the top or bottom of each page. This text, called a header and footer, typically displays page numbers, chapter headings, or book titles. If you need to print long documents and want to print specific information at the top or bottom of each page, you need to learn how to create and use headers and footers. Since headers and footers appear on every page, they can get distracting when you're writing or editing a document. To fix this, Word offers different ways to view your document, so you can temporarily display or hide altogether headers and footers.

One nice feature of Word is that it lets you open one or more documents and display them on the screen. As long as your screen is big enough, you can arrange multiple document windows side by side, so you can compare text stored in two or more different files. If you're writing a new document, you can open an existing document to use as reference, and even copy and cut text from one document window to paste in a second document window. By manipulating multiple windows, you can be productive with two or more documents at the same time!

Editing and formatting text can make your documents look perfect, but eventually you'll want to share your hard work with others. The simplest way to share any document is to print it on paper and give that paper copy of your document to others. You can print just a single copy, or you can get fancy and print one or more pages, a range of pages, or multiple copies. Besides printing your documents, you can also distribute documents by sharing files with others. In this lesson, you'll learn all the different ways to share your document with others in person or through the Internet.

You can type any text into Word and format it to look pretty with different fonts, colors, and font sizes. However, Word can do more than just print characters from your keyboard, such as letters, numbers, and symbols. You can also type characters that you don't actually see on a typical keyboard, such as mathematical symbols and foreign language characters. In this lesson, you'll learn how to add these unusual symbols and characters, so you can type in foreign languages or add mathematical symbols into a document such as a scientific report.

Word may be the most popular word processing program in the world, but it can do more than just let you write, edit, and format text. What makes many reports, letters, and books come alive is the combination of text with other items such as photographs, drawings, and other objects. A picture may be worth a thousand words, but a picture combined with text can say much more than text by itself. In this lesson, you'll learn how to spice up your documents with pictures, so you can make your documents more visually appealing.

Word offers so many features—but you'll probably only use a fraction of them. That can make it hard to find the features you need most. To fix this problem, you can customize Word. In this lesson, you'll get tips for adjusting the Ribbon interface, learn about ways to control how Word saves documents, see how to alter your privacy settings, and find out how you can change Word's appearance to suit your preferences. Now you can make Word look and behave exactly the way you want without wasting time changing the program every time you want to use it.

Master the use of SMART Board and SMART Notebook technology so you can create powerful interactive lessons that capture your student's attention.

SMART Boards are revolutionising today's classroom. Using these exciting interactive whiteboards, you can create multimedia lessons that engage learners and address their diverse needs.

But having SMART Boards in the classroom and knowing how to use them to provide quality instruction are two different things! If you have a Smart Board in your classroom but have little training in using it, you may be wondering—""What on earth do I do with it?""

In this class, you'll discover how to create outstanding presentations with SMART Board and SMART Notebook technology. You'll explore the basics of using these tools and discover how to create your own SMART board lessons blending text, videos, and graphics. You'll also go beyond the bells and whistles and look at specific ways to use SMART technology to broaden your content and make your lessons accessible to all students. Finally, you'll get some simple trouble-shooting tips that will come in handy if your SMART board isn't acting as smart as it should.

By the time you're done with this course, you'll be an expert at using your new high-tech tools to plan SMART board lessons that provide engaging, thought-provoking, and easy-to-update material for today's media-savvy learners.

We'll begin this first lesson by taking a close look at exactly what a SMART Board is and focusing on its interactivity potential. What often happens in the classroom is that teachers inherit a SMART Board but don't know what to do with it. As far as they can tell, it's not much more than a whiteboard. So that's what we'll focus on in this lesson: the SMART Board's interactivity potential and its myriad possibilities. At the end of this lesson, you'll be excited and eager to learn more.

As teachers, we cannot turn our backs on technology. Our students have grown up with it. When we look at today’s learners, we have to look at the whole picture, and that includes where they are with current technology. So, in this lesson, we'll talk about some of the more recent learning theories and where technology fits in with them. We’ll go over the different learning types, multiple intelligences, differentiated instruction, and constructivism. We’ll take each theory and see how technology can complement them all. Along the way, I’ll also share with you the difference between digital natives and digital immigrants, an understanding that could help you greatly in your approach to teaching.

Our goal for this lesson is to download the SMART Notebook software and install it on your computer. Once you have the software downloaded and installed, we'll talk about the equipment you'll need to get started. Then we'll cover how to connect your SMART Board to your computer and projector. When we finish with all those technical details, we can start taking a tour of the SMART Board and the SMART Notebook software. By the end of this lesson, you'll be well prepared to begin working with your SMART Board and the SMART Notebook software. Please keep in mind that you do not have to have a Smart Board to complete the work for this class. The SMART Notebook software is the only requirement. The software is the magic with the Smart Board, not the board itself. So, even if you are exploring the idea of using Smart Boards, you can use your computer and create amazing lessons to use later when you actually have a board.

In this lesson, we'll focus on how to write on the SMART Board, beginning with how to type on it. Then we'll talk about how to write using the collection of pens, how to make shapes, and how to use the eraser. Along the way, I'll share some examples to help illustrate how you can use each of these tools. My goal is to inspire you with some great ideas that you can incorporate into your own classroom.

In this lesson, we're going to look at ways to make use of documents you already have. There are a couple of terrific tools to help you do just that: Smart Ink and Capture. Another tool you'll undoubtedly use often is the Table tool. I'm sure you use tables and charts all the time as a teaching tool. The SMART Notebook Table tool makes creating and manipulating tables super easy. And with its other cool features—like being able to cover individual cells until you're ready to reveal them—I'm betting you'll use Table the tool often. Learning how to use these tools will take you another step closer to SMART Board mastery.

In today’s lesson, we’ll focus on the SMART Board Gallery. In the Gallery, you’ll find manipulatives, clip art, images, and more to help you teach every subject area. You can even add your own images to the Gallery to tailor your lessons to your own wishes. We'll also explore two valuable components of the Gallery: Gallery Essentials and My Content. We’ll take an in-depth look at each of these tools so that you’ll be comfortable using them to create highly visual, interactive lessons that will engage and involve your students.

In this lesson, we'll be digging into the Lesson Activity Toolkit to see what's there and how it can help you with your classroom instruction. With a simple drag and type, you can introduce, review, or enrich learning. We'll also spend some time working with the Page Sorter, Attachments tab, and Activity Builder tab. The Page Sorter is instrumental in helping you see where you are in your SMART Notebook file. It's also where you can group together parts of your file for more efficient access. The Attachments tab is a terrific way to use your own resources while maintaining continuity in your lessons. Finally, the Activity Builder tab allows you to create your own customized sorting activities.  By the end of this lesson, you should feel like a pro in navigating all the sidebar tabs.

Knowing how the SMART Notebook software works and what the various tools do is not the most important thing when using your SMART Board. Once you have a solid understanding of how things work, it’s critical to shift your focus to content, not bells and whistles. In this lesson, we’re going to focus on finding effective lessons—ones that are already put together for you—to meet your curriculum requirements. I'll be sharing lots of resources to make your teaching life much easier.

Even when we use the Gallery and the Lesson Activity Toolkit, sometimes we still come up a little bit short. What do you do if you can&rsquo;t find just the right lesson? That's what we'll focus on in this lesson: We&rsquo;re going to discuss how to make your own SMART notebook lessons. You&rsquo;ll learn how to create <em>reveal</em> and <em>drag-and-drop</em> experiences. Throughout this lesson, we&rsquo;ll keep in mind the Marzano lesson design. We'll preview, chunk, and scaffold learning in any lesson we create. Most important of all, we&rsquo;ll keep our eyes focused on content, not just adding more doodads and gadgets. As I share these tools with you, I&rsquo;ll also be giving you some great lesson ideas.

Students learn in different ways. In this lesson, you'll learn to make your SMART Notebook lessons even more visual and interactive. We'll concentrate on how to reach more learners by animating objects, adding your own images, and adding video and sound. Kids love animation and sound, and adding them will make your lessons that much more enticing. Plus, lessons with animation, video, and sound have the ability to reach every kind of learner.

Since videos have become so much a part of our daily experience, it only makes sense to use them in the classroom, too. SMART Notebook includes several multimedia functions to help make learning interactive. In this lesson, we&rsquo;ll be learning how to use SMART Notebook&rsquo;s Page Recorder, the SMART Recorder, and the SMART Video Player. Even though these features sound similar, they have distinct characteristics that give them unique utility. By the end of this lesson, you&rsquo;ll be creating your own recordings and videos to elevate your classroom instruction to an even higher level.

Do you know what can stop you dead in your tracks when you&rsquo;re using your SMART Board? When something doesn&rsquo;t work. So in this lesson, I&rsquo;m going to share with you some troubleshooting tips. Ideally, they&rsquo;ll head off problems before they even arise. If not, this information will give you some quick and easy ways to get back on track. We&rsquo;ll talk about some of the most common technical problems teachers run into when working with their SMART Boards. Then I&rsquo;ll talk about fixes for operational problems, like when your board is placed too high for students to comfortably work on it. We&rsquo;ll also look at a few more features of the SMART Notebook software. Then we&rsquo;ll wrap up the course with a look at some additional tools that you might consider for use in&nbsp;the future.
