Meet Alyson Bratt, the proud owner of Scrub Woofers Dog Grooming.

Alyson's journey into the world of dog grooming was sparked by the love of her two Labradoodles and a Cavoodle. In our conversation, Alyson shares her transition from a complete novice to launching her own grooming salon.

Alyson, what motivated you to pursue dog grooming?

The idea of working as a dog groomer had always intrigued me, especially with my furry companions at home. It was my Labradoodles and Cavoodle that truly ignited my interest to help me in learning more about grooming them.

During your studies, did you gain practical experience?

I sought out opportunities to gain hands-on experience, from assisting in a grooming salon as a bather/dryer to spending time in a vet's grooming room. I even shadowed a mobile groomer for a day, though I realised mobile grooming wasn't my calling. It dawned on me that having my own salon would allow me to approach grooming in a different way to what I had seen in other salons.

What was it like launching your own salon?

After completing the Dog Grooming Bundle, I opened Scrub Woofers. Initially, I was nervous about attracting clients. I juggled my new venture alongside two part-time jobs, but the demand for grooming services at my salon grew rapidly. Eventually, I had to bid farewell to my other jobs to accommodate the influx of clients. In those initial weeks, I gained invaluable experience, honing my skills and boosting my confidence with each groom. The positive feedback and tips from satisfied customers were the icing on the cake.

Have you encountered any challenging grooms?

Absolutely! One memorable experience was grooming a large Labradoodle who had never been to a groomer. He was a tangle of knots, debris, and overgrown nails. It was a learning experience from start to finish. I realised the importance of adapting my grooming process and investing in better equipment, like a Hydro bath. Despite the challenges, I persevered and came out more knowledgeable and capable in the end.

You'll also learn the days and months. Calendars are a little different in France, and you'll learn how to read them. You'll learn words for today and tomorrow. Next, you'll learn how to tell time in French. Time is important to travelers. You don't want to be late for the opera!

Welcome to France! We're finally getting to the exciting part! In this lesson, you'll learn all about transportation. We'll start out at the airport. Then you'll learn words about taxis, buses, trains, and my favorite, the subway.

In this lesson, you'll learn vocabulary and dialogues for all sorts of lodging options.  Hotels are the most popular place for tourists to stay, so we'll spend the most time on them. Next, you'll find out how to talk about other places to stay. First, you'll learn about youth hostels. Then we'll move on to apartments, resorts, and castles. (No, I've never spent the night in a castle, but it would be fun!) You’ll also learn about requesting special items and information.

Today we're going to talk about food. First, you'll learn about different types of French restaurants. Then you'll learn general vocabulary about food and eating out. You'll also learn words for various beverages.

In the seventh lesson, you’ll learn about currency and different types of communication. First, you'll learn about money in France. Then we’ll move on to telephones, the mail, and technology.

In this lesson, you’re going to learn how to talk about shopping in French. First, you’ll learn words that are used in all stores. Then we’ll talk about souvenirs. You can’t go on a trip without buying souvenirs! Next, you’ll learn words for clothes. I’ll teach you a few tips for using French words, too. You’ll also learn names for colors and lots of different kinds of stores.

In Lesson 9, you’re going to learn French for lots of different forms of entertainment.  We’ll start with the radio. Then we’ll move on to television and movies.  You’ll also learn about sports and beaches.  Then we’ll talk about the circus and fairs. Finally, you’ll learn about zoos and amusement parks.

Today we’re going to talk about more entertainment options. We’ll focus on cultural tourist spots. We’ll start with museums and then move on to castles and cathedrals. France is famous for its castles, and everyone should see at least one. Then we’ll talk about the theater. You’ll learn words for plays, musicals, operas, and concerts.

In this lesson, you’re going to learn about emergencies. I hope you’ll never need to use this lesson. Life is unpredictable, though. It’s helpful to familiarize yourself with these words. Then, to lighten things up a little, we’ll be talking about French phrases. You’ll learn exclamations, as well as a few French proverbs and idioms.

In your final lesson, we’ll start our review. We’ll go over a few key points, such as pronunciation and linking words. You’ll even get a little more practice on those cumbersome nasal vowels. Then, you’ll learn how to make your own sentences. I’ll teach you some simple sentences. All you have to do is plug in the word you need.  Next, you’ll learn how to ask questions, and we'll cover a little sentence structure. Finally, you’ll learn some fun slang.

Today we'll discuss the many file formats digital images can take and how you can use them to your best advantage with Photoshop Elements. You'll learn how to save updated originals and copies of your images, as well as how to use Edit Quick to produce fast results. You'll see how to crop and rotate images to get just the look you're after, and you'll practice using the Straighten tool for one-step corrections.

Digital images come in all sizes! In this lesson, we'll discuss image resolution, pixels, and recommendations for resizing pictures with excellent results. When you want high quality prints, you'll see just how to resize them and maintain quality with Photoshop Elements sizing options. We'll also discuss the different shapes images can take and how you can be sure your prints will fit the frames you choose.

Photoshop Elements gives you lots of options for printing your documents, and you’ll learn about all of them in this lesson. You'll find out how to add temporary colorful borders and print images to just the size you want. You'll also practice saving photos for use on the Web using Photoshop Elements Save for Web. You'll also have a chance to work with the histogram, Levels, and Color Curves—all excellent tools for correcting lighting and color tones. Through all this, you'll see how Elements keeps track of your changes and lets you go back through them if you want to undo something.

In this lesson, we'll take a look at how Organizer works to keep track of your images. We'll also cover strategies for using both folders and Organizer. You'll see how to sort your pictures, add tags, and collect them in albums for use in projects like scrapbook pages and greeting cards.

In your creative projects, you'll often want to pair photos with text. Photoshop Elements gives you plenty of text tools, and in this lesson, you'll explore those and add text to your images. You'll see how Photoshop Elements uses layers with text, and you'll get tips on how to master the Layers panel. You'll also begin your study of the powerful selection tools, including the color-based Magic Wand tool and the flexible Lasso tool. You'll also learn some advanced techniques for using the selection tools together. We'll work extensively with the Add to selection option, and we'll preview our work with Mask Mode. You'll have a chance to experiment with some of Photoshop Elements' filters and color options, as well as the settings in the Magnetic Lasso tool. As a final addition to your knowledge in this area, you'll have a chance to explore and work with the Select menu.
