Learn to build, edit, and maintain a database in Access 2010, using tables, reports, forms, and queries to give you fast access to all your important information.

Take control over your data! Whether you're a novice or an experienced database user, this course will show you how to harness the full power of Microsoft Access 2010.

In these practical and project-oriented lessons, you'll learn how to use this award-winning MS Office software to create and customise tables. You'll build relationships between your tables to eliminate redundancies and slash data entry time. And you'll discover how to achieve huge reductions in data entry errors by setting default values, creating validation rules, and building input masks.

In addition, you'll find out how to make your database more user-friendly with custom data entry forms, smart lists, and other sophisticated controls. You'll learn how to retrieve exactly what you need from your database with powerful queries and reports, and you'll even start automating routine tasks with labor-saving macros.

By the time you've finished this course, you'll know how to create an effective database for any information you need to store, document, and manage—at home or on the job.

Courses are delivered to you through expertly executed lessons, online instruction and interaction with like-minded students. Our courses are designed to deliver all of the benefits of studying in a classroom whilst giving you the flexibility to study at a time and place to suit your needs. You can access your classroom 24/7 from any device with an internet connection.

This course has a 3 month duration. You'll complete comprehensive lessons, quizzes and assignments before submitting your final exam at the end of the course to achieve your certificate. Courses must be completed within the 3 month access period.

In this lesson, you&rsquo;ll find out what Access is and how individuals, businesses, and organizations use it to store information. You&rsquo;ll begin to build an Access database . . . including all the components that turn a list of records into reports, forms, and queries. We&rsquo;ll start by opening the application and creating a new database. <b></b>

It&rsquo;s time to lay down the law! Today you&rsquo;ll impose rules that automatically fill an Access table field with a preset value or that automatically insert the symbols commonly included in phone numbers. Also, you&rsquo;ll set up rules that require allow only certain kinds of data in certain fields. With just a few minutes of work, you can make data entry simpler, clearer, and practically error-free.

Today you&rsquo;ll create additional tables for&nbsp;our class&nbsp;database, customizing them along the way, and then build relationships between them. This all paves the way for later database features, such as reports, queries, and forms that draw from multiple tables in the database.

In this lesson, you&rsquo;ll use forms for data entry and for viewing records in your tables. You&rsquo;ll meet the Form Wizard, which makes form building fast and easy and which allows you to select one or more tables&rsquo; fields to include. You&rsquo;ll also determine form layout.

In this lesson, you&rsquo;ll add buttons and controls to forms. You&rsquo;ll also adjust table relationships to support the creation of multi-table forms . . . which paves the way to creating queries and reports that draw data from more than one table.

Using queries to sort, filter, and search your database is one of the most important skills you&rsquo;ll master in this course. In this lesson, you&rsquo;ll create queries that search for specific data. You&rsquo;ll also customize how Access displays that data. You&rsquo;ll follow instructions step by step, so you gain confidence with the process; then I&rsquo;ll turn you loose to create a query on your own.

A query that puts specific records in order or finds all the records that have a general piece of information in common is, well, pretty common. Being able to create that kind of query is a great foundation skill, but it won&rsquo;t help you find a very specific record. Nor will it let you search for records within a span of dates or other numeric values. It also won&rsquo;t help you exclude certain records, reducing a large pool of data to just those records you need to see. In this lesson, you&rsquo;ll create queries that give you true power to search your database.

In this lesson, you&rsquo;ll learn to plan, build, and use queries that pull data from more than one table at a time. This gives you more power over your data and allows you to build a great foundation for truly customized reports.

Reports are easy to create and to customize. In this lesson, you&rsquo;ll build a simple report using the Report Wizard. Then you&rsquo;ll change the report&rsquo;s appearance, using layout view and design view. These skills provide the foundation to create and design any report you may need, on any data in your database.

In this lesson, you&rsquo;ll create reports that are based on the results of queries you create to sort and filter your database. Because queries can combine data from multiple tables, filter for specific data, and sort the results, your report reflects just the data that meet the query&rsquo;s criteria. This makes truly customized reporting possible&mdash;and quite simple.

In this lesson, you&rsquo;ll plan and create a completely customized report, using a specialized query that controls which data the report includes. You&rsquo;ll add fields that perform calculations on your data. You&rsquo;ll customize your report&rsquo;s layout, too, using design view&rsquo;s many tools for controlling the structure and appearance of your data.

Building macros (short programs that perform a series of steps) helps you speed up and create consistency in your more repetitive Access tasks. From opening a form to running a report to building a new record in a table, macros eliminate redundant procedures by turning them into something you can do with one click.

Course Revised January 2014

Courses are delivered to you through expertly executed lessons, online instruction and interaction with like-minded students. Our courses are designed to deliver all of the benefits of studying in a classroom whilst giving you the flexibility to study at a time and place to suit your needs. You can access your classroom 24/7 from any device with an internet connection.

<P>Learning to use your PC well starts with learning to use Windows. In this first lesson, we'll start with the basics that every computer user must know in order to use a computer with minimal frustration. If you've been working in "frustration and aggravation" mode for a while, this lesson will take care of that. We'll start by talking about what Windows 8 is and why you want to learn it. Then, we'll get right into the most important skills and terminology that allow you to control what you see on your screen at all times. And that's important, because the first step to using anything that's in your computer is getting it on the screen where you can see it! </P> </H1> </H1>

In this lesson, you'll explore the new Windows 8 Start screen. This new area gives you access to all the apps, programs, files, and more that exist on your computer. You'll find out how to manage the Start screen, work with apps, download and update apps, and customize the Start screen so that it looks the way you want. Get ready to have some fun and learn new stuff because the Windows 8 Start screen is brand new!

In today's lesson, you'll have fun personalizing your computer by choosing your own desktop pictures, window colors, and sound scheme. Along the way, you'll learn about the important Control Panel window in Windows 8 and tips for using dialog boxes and those occasional mysterious dimmed options that do nothing when you click them. The skills you learn in this lesson will go a long way to helping you gain complete control of your computer.

<P>No matter how you intend to use your computer, there'll be times when there's some typing involved. It might be for writing email messages, memos, or letters, or it might be for taking notes in a course, or for chatting with others in a website. Whatever the reason, today's lesson will teach you all the tricks for making typing (and editing) quick and easy. And you'll also discover how to save your work in files and folders, so it'll always be there when you need it! </P> </H1> </H1> </H1> </H1>

<P>Everything that's in your computer is stored on its hard drive. The hard drive is like a filing cabinet containing files organized into folders. Finding things you've saved in the past is a matter of opening the filing cabinet, so to speak, and then locating the correct folder. You'll use the File Explorer program to accomplish this. And in this lesson, you'll learn how it all works so you can start gaining complete mastery of your own files and folders. </P> </H1> </H1> </H1> </H1> </H1>

<p>Today it's time to have some fun with photographs. In today's lesson, you'll learn to use Photo Gallery to get pictures from a camera into your computer. You'll learn some tips for organizing those photos. And you'll also learn how to rotate pictures that are sideways, delete any awful pictures you'd rather nobody ever see, and print all your favorite photos on paper.</p>

In this lesson, we'll have even more fun with photos. Today, you'll learn how to further organize your photos by renaming them, rating them, and adding captions and tags. You'll also learn how to search for photos with tags. And you'll learn about Photo Gallery's editing tools for adjusting brightness and contrast, straightening crooked pictures, correcting red eye, and cropping.

<P>The Internet is home to popular websites like Facebook, Twitter, Google, ed2go, and many others. I'm sure many of you have seen reference to .com sites in ads and elsewhere. If you don't have a lot of computer experience, you might find it difficult to get to the many things you hear about on the Web. But not after this lesson! Today, I'll teach you how to use Internet Explorer, the program that provides access to all of those popular websites.</P> </H1>

<P>Managing files and folders is one of those computer skills that every computer user needs to know. In many work and school environments, people just assume you know how to manage files, and they rarely provide any details on how to accomplish things like copying, moving, or renaming files and folders. Today's lesson will explain how to do those very things that others assume you already know how to do. </P> </H1> </H1>

<p>In this lesson, you'll expand your file management skills by learning how to delete and recover files. You'll learn how to select multiple files to work with so you don't always have to manage your files one at a time. And we'll discuss how to copy files to and from removable media like flash drives, CDs, and DVDs.</p>

<P>Your computer is an investment of money, and the pictures and other files you store on your computer are an investment of time. You might even have some photos or other files that are so precious the thought of losing them causes you anxiety. What you need to do is protect those files. And that's just what this chapter is all about&mdash;how to use the tools and techniques that are built right into Windows to help you protect your valuable time and files!</P> </H1>

<P>In our final lesson, you'll learn some more techniques for protecting your computer, including using resources for free protection from viruses and spyware. You'll learn how to remove programs you no longer want or need. You'll learn how to copy and paste text and create screenshots. And you'll discover some great timesaving tips and shortcuts, as well as resources for helping yourself so you don't have to be so dependent on others. </P> </H1> </H1> </H1>

Learn to create Web pages, layouts, and websites using CSS formatting options and other tools with Adobe's industry-standard Web design application.

You've taken your first steps into Web design, and your fingers are beginning to cramp from all that typing—but don't panic! Developing your coding skills has not been in vain! You're ready for Dreamweaver—Adobe's preeminent Web development application—which has been designed from the ground up to make developing websites easier.

You'll begin by touring the Dreamweaver workspace and configuring it for your specific site-management needs. You'll learn how to use Dreamweaver's intuitive tool set to structure text, and investigate the myriad formatting options CSS provides. Along the way, you'll work with images, build navigation elements, discuss effective layout methods, learn where and when to use tables, and examine successful site planning strategies.

By the end of the course, you'll have successfully built a website and know how to use Dreamweaver's built-in FTP tools to upload to the server of your choice.

Your first lesson will introduce you to one of Dreamweaver's greatest strengths: its clean, simple interface. Not only will you learn the primary interface elements, you'll also find out how to preview your work in multiple Web browsers&mdash;because rigorous testing is the key to a successful website. By testing and adapting your site documents across multiple browsers, you'll ensure that every site visitor, regardless of their browser, has a positive user experience.

Dreamweaver is a site creation and management tool, not just some glorified HTML editor. While you're building a site, Dreamweaver has the ability to track each color you assign, every image and multimedia file you insert, every Web address you refer to, as well as every step you take while working on a specific document. Dreamweaver then keeps all this information right at your fingertips to use again and again. In today's lesson, you'll learn the steps you need to take to put these features to work for you.

The two most important aspects of any website are what it says and how it looks. In this lesson on structuring text, you'll learn how to group blocks of text into elements such as headings, paragraphs, and lists. In certain respects, structuring text with Dreamweaver is very similar to working in your word processor. It's important to understand, however, that Dreamweaver is not a word processor. And perhaps more importantly, word processing and Web design are totally different worlds. This lesson also includes an introduction to HTML, which stands for <i>HyperText Markup Language</i>.

When HTML was first created, nobody thought the Web would become what it is today. HTML was simply meant to be a fast and easy way for folks to format simple documents (black text on a white page). <i>Cascading Style Sheets</i> take us beyond that. Today you'll get a short introduction to Cascading Style Sheets (CSS for short), and you'll gain an understanding of how to implement CSS using Dreamweaver. We'll explore the basics behind how CSS works and how to use it to format, or style, your page text.

Believe it or not, early Web browsers couldn't display images. It's doubtful the Web would have become so popular if that were still true today. In this lesson, you'll learn how to use Dreamweaver to insert and format images within your documents. Even though Dreamweaver isn't a true image-editing application, it does offer some very impressive editing tools, and we'll explore these features today as well.

Well-structured navigation elements are the backbone of every successful website. In the past, designers attempted to make their navigation elements stand out using various image and JavaScript-based effects, more often than not guaranteeing that their navigation was anything but well structured. Fortunately, there's a cure: list-based navigation elements. In this lesson, you'll expand your CSS horizons and discover how to format your structured lists any way you like.

We use tables to display data&mdash;columns and rows of information with headings and borderlines, just like the typical spreadsheet. In the dark ages before WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) HTML editors, digging through the long and complex code required to render a table on screen was mind-bending at best. With a tool like Dreamweaver, table editing becomes a snap. And in this lesson, you'll see just how true that statement is.

You've probably filled out a Web form before. Forms allow site visitors to input their information and send it to the Web server. For the Web server to use the data visitors enter, there must be a processing script on the server. This script, or groups of scripts, accepts the data and does something with it. But in order to use a form, you first need to build it. In today's lesson, we'll focus on the creation of form pages, their formatting, and their layout.

Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) are the core of modern Web design. In this lesson, we'll examine some Web design principles and explore page layout using CSS. In the process, you'll get acquainted with the tools Dreamweaver uses to do some of our coding.

In today's lesson, we'll explore ways to speed up your work flow and easily reuse content with the help of Dreamweaver's Assets and History panels. You'll learn how to use the Assets panel to quickly access elements and get them into new pages, so you don't have to go hunting through your site for previously used content. When we explore the History panel, you'll learn how to undo anything you wish you hadn't done, as well as repeat formatting procedures throughout your site.

In the life cycle of a website, the design and development period is the most fun. It's also the shortest. You spend much more time managing and maintaining your site. Dreamweaver appreciates this reality and has put as much thought and effort into its site management and maintenance tools as it has into its development tools. In today's lesson, you'll learn how to use Dreamweaver's site management tools to connect to your Web server and to upload and download files. You'll also find out how to use Check-In and Check-Out, which let workgroups develop sites together without overwriting content. And you'll discover how to attach design notes to your files, so you and fellow workers can communicate across conflicting work schedules.

You now have an introductory knowledge of Dreamweaver, and you know just enough to be dangerous. We'll spend our last lesson together going over site planning. You'll learn the five basic questions that you'll need to answer before starting any website project. We'll discuss where and how to gather your site content (text, graphics, and other media), as well as different strategies for organizing that content once you have it. By the time you finish this lesson, no matter what type of website you need to build, you'll know exactly how to plan for its success!
